The Chinese JIL Research Group: Fellowships and Wang Tieya Prize
The Chinese JIL Research Group
has been established to promote original
research in international law by scholars including graduate students.
The working language of the Group is English.
Fellowships and Prize.
The Research Group aims
to select in its complete discretion a number of Fellows each year solely on
the basis of research proposals on international law in general (including
topics about China) by Chinese scholars and research proposals on international
law issues having direct relevance to China by non-Chinese scholars. Each
Fellow will receive a modest award of about US$700 (half paid on designation as
Fellow; half on completion of the paper), research guidance from the Editors
and Advisors. Each fellow grants the Chinese
JIL the right of first refusal on their papers which will be reviewed in
the same way as are other submissions.
One fellowship is made
possible by the generosity of Dr. SHEN Jianming, his
law firm SHENLAW, LLC (http://shenlaw.com) and an anonymous donor, and the
fellow will be designated as SHENLAW
Fellow. Another fellowship is made
possible by the generosity of Prof. ZHANG Yong,
and the fellow will be
designated as Zhang Yong Fellow.
A special one year Han Depei Fellowship for private international law only has
been made possible for 2008 by a donation of RMB6000 from Prof. Huang Jin. The selection process will be the same as for
the other fellows.
To honor the memory of
Professor Wang Tieya, former President of the Chinese
Society of International Law and a founding Co-Editor-in-Chief of this Journal,
a Wang Tieya
Prize (US$1,000, sponsored by Dr. SHEN Jianming
and an anonymous donor) will be awarded for an excellent paper published in this Journal
by a Fellow when such a
paper presents itself, in the opinion of the Prize Committee. There is no need to apply for
this Prize.
Each applicant is invited to submit one proposal only which will be
considered for all the Fellowships as appropriate. The deadline for
submission of proposals of no more than 1,000 words only: 10 April of each
